Hey All,
I´m having a great time in my new area. The city is way cleaner here due to the tourism. There are two other Elders that we share the city and the surrounding area with, and they just sent two more elders out to Bavaro (on the coast) so that we won´t have to spend all of our money traveling there to teach refferences there and to attend the small branch out there. There a a good number of people to teach here, and there are a ton of Haitians. Most of the good investigatores here are Hatians. The Haitians are just WAY more humble than the rest of the people and really prepared to accept the gospel in their lives. The only kind-of-down-side to this, is that a lot of the Haitians don´t know spanish very well. Most of them know more english than spanish, but not enough to teach them effectively in english. We´ve found that it´s best to rely on the help of the few really strong Haitian members in the ward to teach with us and interpret the lessons while we´re teaching. It´s been a great week. We had a baptismal service in a river near the outside of the city and I had the privelidge of batising Simon, a great investigator from our area, and Luis, from the area of the other missionareis. THey´re both Haitians with great testimonies. One great thing about the small ward here is that there is actually a separate class for sunday school in creol, so the Haitians can actually lear every week when they go to church. I´ve found that we find a lot of great new people to teach from the spanish and english classes that we give every thursday. The rest of the small ward isn´t nearly as active, but we´re working to help them change in that regard.
Mom, as far as the package goes; every time that I try to think of something that I need my mind seems to go blank. The only thing I can think if right now is maybee a small headlamp that runsoff of aaa or aa batteries. oh! and if you could send a stick or two of old spice deoderant. deoderand is way expensive here and there´s never any Old Spice brand. Just send a scent or two that smell like me and those should be the ones that I used to use.
My new house and my companion, Elder Pimentel, are great! Elder Pimentel is from Santiago, DR, and has a great enthusiasm for the work. The new house is really nice too. It´s a lot cooler at night. I´ve been able to sleep that last few nights without being drenched in sweat, which is a big help. We also have a microwave oven, so I can make stuff in bigger quantity and heat it up later. The only downsides to the house, are that the refridgerator is ancient and doesn´t really keep things very cold, and our front door actually isn´t very secure. We´re going to see what we can do about fixing the door. One day we accidentaly locked the keys in the house and it only took us about 30 seconds to get back into the house. it turns out that there is a crack in the door panel that makes it so that you can just push your hand right through and unlock the door.
Anyhow, I´m just about out of time for today. I´ll see if we can go to the basilica next week for p-day so that I can send some good pictures home. I´ll send you the pictuers from this week next time too. The computer that I´m on right now really isn´t very good.
