Hola Todos,
Not much has changed for me in the past couple of weeks. We have a few investigators that are progressing but nothing too promising at the moment. We´re working hard though, and finding tons of new ppeople to teach. Just about anybody that has a job here workis in the hotels in Bavaro and can´t go to church on Sunday. Yesterday we passsed by the house of an investigator before church because we had told them that we would pick them up along the way. We got there and the house was empty, so after a few minutes we started to walk down the street to leave. As we were walking away I felt like we shourld really cross through an empty lot and save some time. As we were crossing the lot I came around a short palm tree who´s leaves were still low enough to touch the ground. As I rounded the tree, I looked over and saw the investigator that we had gone to pick-up and his friend hiding behind the tree. When they saw that I had seen them they threw their arms over their faces and scrambled to hide better. So naturally, I laughed, greeted them, and asked how they were doing. They gave us the usual empty excuses that everyone does about why they didn´t want to go to church, but I just couldn´t help but laugh, as we were walking away, at how comical they had looked throwing up their arms and trying to hide better.
Another time we came to the door of an investigatore´s house for a teaching apointment. When we knocked on the door we heard some muffled voices and feet running into the back room of the house. The little kid opened the door and said that his parents weren´t home to teach that day and that they wouldn´t be coming back that day. We told the kid ok and told him to tell his parents that we would be coming back to teach them at a certain time another day. The kid said ok, but then I got an idea. I sat there looking at the kid, and after about 15 seconds I said, "well? Go tell ´em!" The kid ran off to the back of the house, where we heard the voices again. When the kid ran back out he said, "yeah, they said that´ll be good!" Again, I just couldn´t help but laugh as we were wlking away.
Thanks to everybody for their letters and prayers, and thanks to the Snyderville Ward and the Baileys for the cards that they sent. They really do help a ton. I´m having a good time and working hard, but there´s not much new to say. We´re about to leave to go paint the front rooms of our house today.Anyhow, I´ll write again next week.
oh yeah, here in Hiügey we´re mostly teaching Haitians with a very limited command of spanish. As such I´m trying to pick up a little bit of Haitian Creol. I haven´t really been able to find a good book to lear creol down here. I´m not saying to send me anything right now, but if anyone could fing a good book to learn Haitian Creol and send it in the next package it would be greatly apprechiated. (I just butchered the spelling on that last word)
THanks again for everyone´s support!
Cuidense Muchísimo!
